#footstr has been waiting for you. 😂
😁 a newly converted meat fan what can I say. Glad there are others on nostr
I’m going to get my wisdom teeth taken out soon but don’t want to spend all the money all at once. This may sound stupid but is it possible to finance wisdom tooth removal?
Or is that not even what you do? lol
great question! Orthopaedists dont do teeth! Youll need to find a #nostr oral surgeon or a dentist to help with that one!

I can do mangled extremities but mouths/saliva aren’t our thing
 Welcome friend.

Not yet, but I'm getting older, so I might be able to give you some business going forward 😂

Enjoy NOSTR, it's a wonderful place to be.
Thanks buddy. Ill be here waiting
 Welcome Doc!
 thank you!
 Welcome to Nostr!
 Greetings
Maybe. I don't know but I'll give you a follow. Shill me your knowledge
In the movies when someone dislocates a shoulder someone either yanks on it or the injured slams their shoulder into something. What is the proper technique to relocate the arm back into the shoulder socket?

Similarly with fractured bone protruding from the skin, do you just push it back in place?

Working to improve my post-apocolypse field medic training.
 😁epic questions.

shoulder dislocations are typically reduced or put back with light sedation in the ED, and sometimes under full anesthetic

there are maneuvers that work depending on whether the shoulder came out to the front or back.

in the apocalypse Id have em lay down and attempt to elevate the arm while someone else holds counter traction.

do I have to say this isnt medical advice if we assume the applicable scenario is a zombie apocalypse?
 Thank you.

There will be no lawyers during the zombie apocalypse, you're good.
What are the most stupid things that people do (unknowingly over years) that you need to repair and would prefer no to?
great question I may have multiple answers but currently Id say biggest self inflicted issue is metabolic disease/inactivity.

Ive seen 95 year olds dance after having a hip fracture surgery, and a 55 year old never walk again after the same procedure.

stay moving, its most important
Metabolic disease, you mean the usual sugar related (diabetes) stuff or there are any other things? Salt? Sneaky long term food allergies?
Metabolic disease refers to a group of disorders that occur when any part of the body's metabolism is disrupted, often leading to abnormal breakdown or synthesis of nutrients, causing symptoms like weight gain, fatigue, and organ damage. Diabetes is a great example.

Its an exception to be healthy now that we start our kids on fiat food so early.

This is my kid's elementary school.. fucking shameful https://image.nostr.build/453eff8034dcbab9d0bbe1b16815b2c0551bdc3c221d2951892447780d872253.jpg
 Oh my.
What do you find interesting enough about nostr to be here now?
I like the characters here. But I mostly post because that’s what keeps it alive.

oh, sorry, you were asking the orthopedic surgeon, not just random people generally — never mind!
wow. an honor sir! your work has inspired me.

Im an engineer at heart and see immense value being built here. Came for the censorship resistance, fell in love with zaps and Cashu
 That's nuts! 🥜⚡
Welcome! I’m hopelessly in ❤️ with Cashu.
 I'm not 100% sure yet.

I know I'm here with like-minded people. I'd say we all crave for safeguarding our eroding freedom.

And I know we're currently cooking something together. Not sure how yummy it will be, but we're on it, one way or another.

LFG
 Welcome! 🫂
Best non-invasive treatment for herniated disc L4/L5?
 sorry to hear

orthopaedists typically only do spine if fellowship trained in this.

Ill keep and eye out for nostrs first neurosurgeon for ya
What is something that you would like to say about your field that is taboo, and leaves you afraid that if you say it, you could be cancelled? Such as suspicions about say using opioids in injury recovery, or a surgical procedure that you generally think is over prescribed? Thanks for your participation here!
Jesus, thank you for the excellent question!

I focus on trauma, which limits my exposure to the typical orthopaedic landscape. There isn’t much bureaucracy or room for debate when your limbs are mangled and you fail to provide basic functions of life for yourself.

“Bone broke, we fix.” The orangutans of the surgical world. I’m perfectly fine with this characterization.

If I could pass one general piece of advice from a surgical perspective: ALWAYS get second opinions before non-urgent surgical procedures.

You’d be surprised how often I’m asked to review medical plans from friends/family. Although they are often outside of my field of practice, I have immediate access via my physician group to about 500 physicians covering every subspecialty, and you’d be surprised how often I find conflicting opinions regarding the best plan of care. Sure, it’s to be expected in ‘grey areas’ where risks and benefits seem balanced; however, at least once a year I’m confronted with a case in which the proposed plan is obviously outside of the normal scope of practice.

As in all areas of life, incentives drive outcomes. Don’t be surprised to find that your private-practice surgeon is over prescribing surgical procedures to pad their bottom line. The only way you’ll really know is if you take the time to dig. Or, ask me of course.
Do you have a sub focus, like hip and knee, shoulder etc? Or do you do it all?
Yes; orthopaedic trauma. We do the typical broken bone stuff with a few more complex things unique to the subspecialty around the pelvis and joints
 Welcome!
What is best prevention to not get into your office you would recommend in general?
 Thank you!

Perform some sort of physical, strenuous activity daily. Keep your body strong

And dont ride your kid's hover boards
