Well said. I also share this concern. People make mistakes; they grow and change. Having a proper delete function, or the option to make a post ephemeral as you suggested, makes sense to me.

I can only imagine what kind of hell most people would experience as adults if everything they said from birth on was on a permanent record.

IMO being anonymous should not be a requirement to use Nostr and avoid this risk.

Centralized or not, people often use privacy tech to get away from a permanent record.

Irreversable damage to one's personal or business reputation is not the only concern. People also sometimes accidentally doxx themselves and that can be a very real threat to their personal saftey.

The only "saving grace" so far has been the fact that Nostr relays tend to disappear over time, and many notes disappear with them. Many old notes have been lost as a result.

That said, malicious relays are a thing and we can't depend on external factors like what someone decides to do or not do with their relay.

It is an interesting debate.
could you stop reposting yourself? it doesn't make sense
No. Not eveyone uses a client where comments are shown in the same feed as posts. Amethyst for example has two tabs.
I would like an option to have it all I'm the same feed
 An option would be nice.
A year after I burn my nsec, all I really want to remain are my 5 most profound notes. At that point, there's likely no good that will come to me from the rest.

Still confused by freedom tech but locked in with everything you wrote or did, kind of feels like a different form of public shaming of sorts
Please try not to feel that ashamed. Imagine how you'd feel reading these words from a loved one after they're gone and you're going through old posts to remember them 🤙
That's a beautiful sentiment, I guess I'm curious about all the people who delete all the time now. I understand you have to be deliberate then with what you write. Is that a form of censorship?
I'd say it kinda is. It's like decentralized censorship if that makes sense. I think it's part of why it's so essential for humans to have others we can trust

Makes me think of the term "Overton window" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overton_window
Interesting. I am going to think about this for a bit. Thank you for the link!
