I get that we as artists should make MORE money on it, but why the specific Spotify hatred? Why not Youtube, where they never pay anything but can find time to put ads on every video? Why not Apple Music which is so global but never sends a penny? Please explain because y'all.. it hurts to hear how many people refuse to use Spotify, it feels like a "fuck you, you don't need ANY of your royalties".
@bb543141 Probably because they ushered in the era and blazed a path for lower returns for musicians. First mover gets the hate sometimes? I don't use them, in part because of that, but also in part because I don't like the experience. I don't want to be algorithmically spoon-fed.
@3b9b0957 i like discovering music that way, but i train my suggested algorithms aggressively. I used Last.fm for that purpose and was so very happy until they switched to populating their player with YouTube videos.. so I was often served neverending ads and mislabeled music. These days, feels like another shift needs to happen, because Spotify being the only game in town does not work. :(
