 “Connection” implies a bidirectional link while follows are unidirectional (you following someone doesn’t mean they follow you). I don’t love the term “follower” either but “connection” is technically inaccurate. 
 Yes… so in order for it to be a connection you both must “follow” one another…

This is an interesting feature. It would make it instantly recognizable to the user that the bidirectional connection exists… 🤔 
 When would that be useful to know?  
 All the time? Anytime? 
 I mean, what's the use?
1. Do you need the number if connections, and for what? 
2. Do you want to know who an npub is connected too, and for what?

 LinkedIn has both Follows, which are one-way, and Connections, which are strictly bidirectional.
