As someone who declare as dinosour and being new to all this, I don't agree. The best way to make it mainstream is to render complex tech concepts into relatable language so dumbass like me and millions of people can understand it. If you hit us first with terms like "public key", "sats", "zapping", etc we will run away because we have no idea what the heck is that. What we do understand is:
1. True freedom of speech, no censorship, independence
2. Possibility to create amazing things and spread powerful ideas without being a victim of algorithm
3. While in traditional social media you are invisible, shut down, shadowbanned...here you can be equal and visible and effortlesly be awarded and earn money just because others appreciate what you have to say/share/express. It's entirely different, refreshing experience!

I could go on and on...but you get the idea. Basically adressing pain points of current world, internet and social media and in simple language offering solution - nostr. explaining all possibilities it offers (again in regular human language). Also, I would personally promote it as a place that is not ego centric, but focused on service to all. I would also promote post and ideas of this kind.

Maybe the most important part is arranging free education "what is #nostr and how to set it up" in high schools, universities and independent events organized by nostr itself. This should be done all over the world physically, not virtually. The fear of new and unknown needs to be overcome, and having real people next to you who can guide you, and show you and answer the questions is crucial!

At the end of the day, nostr should be presented as powerful movement since realisticly maybe for the first time in thousand of years allows people and nations who were opressed, robbed and poor get their dignity and freedom back.

Okay now you make me curious 😁, whats your definition of true freedom of speech? Because most people don't want true freedom of speech 😅
Hi Katja! 😀 for me it means being able to share ideas, facts, opinions, have open discussions from various angles on many different topics without being put into prison, killed, humiliated, shadowbanned or censored.

Unfortunately, all our medias are stories that are lobbied & space is not given to the voices out of the narrative that is being forced.

For example, during covid, I wish I could see at least on one national television an open discussion between scientists, politicians, etc. All I was able to see is opression, censorship, humiliation of anyone who was saying anything different from the main narrative.
As a technical writer, I agree. While some Nostr apps have better onboarding than others, the whole zapping setup, connecting wallets, etc., is still troublesome enough that I don't want to want mess with it ever again.

At least for now.

I have things sorted, but I don't trust myself to not screw it up again in the future.

It not only needs to be very simple, but understandable. All the "gotchas" need to be explained up front and what they mean, also in simple language so a person can decide from the beginning what they want to spend, how much, what it might mean for their taxing jurisdiction, whether to publish with their real name and face or not, etc.

While there's some good documentation so far, it's still not quite easy enough to navigate and to operate in when using it regularly. I hope that improves.
 Totally agree!
and @Misty thank you so much for zapping me! This is crazy! I am still getting used on all this 😀🙏
So should we be marketing for the least common Denominator, or should we be dog whistling all the genius digital giga chads?
If #nostr aims to be mainstream, then the complex technical concepts should be rendered in a way that everyone can understand it. If not, it can be as it is - for certain audience you called digital giga chads.
I think it can be offered in a simple way:

- pick your own servers
- choose whatever client you like, and take your data anywhere
- choose your own algorithm. this part is way underdeveloped because most client devs are keen on gaining followers rather than making follows obsolete
I hear you, but avarege person have no clue what it means picking your server, choosing the client you like, choosing your own algorithm. #Justsaying
So, if the goal is to become mainstream and R-EVOLUTION you need to meet people where they are.
