I've tried for years. It's futile and almost always ends the same and we just end up back where we started in the discussion. It seems people are now less inclined to even attempt at comprehending someone else's perspective.

Often it is just not worth the battle, especially when it comes to random people on social media. While constructive discussion is good, there are much more productive ways to spend time than getting in to arguments with people who are closed minded.
