 Our Xfinity bill shot up because of an expiring 12-month discount, just as it did a year ago. So I called.

me: I noticed our bill went up and I was wondering if we could go repeat whatever pro-forma ritual we need to in order to secure a more reasonable charge again.

them: *laughing* thank you for understanding the situation, sir.

I always try to bear in mind that the customer service people I speak with are *way* more victimized by the shitty behavior of their employers than I will ever be. 
 Postscript: It was a pleasant enough and ultimately productive call, but if I had another alternative I would jump on it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately 5G home internet isn't a possibility where I live (yet) and there's no other wireline broadband provider around. So it's Xfinity or, I guess, DSL (believe it or not, still exists) 
 @03a95182 I went through this too. They bumped to three different people, but they totally just put it back down, which was great.

 @03a95182 I had a door to door guy come to talk to me about switching to a new fiber internet service here. I pointed that there is no way I can in good conscience switch to a firm to colludes as a cartel with other firms to raise prices for customers all over the country.

He says, "where do you work?" Then he asks if I speak French. Turns out he has a degree in economics and spent ten minutes ripping his employer a new one for making the brand representatives poach each other's zones, inter alia 
 @03a95182 I’ve always believed in never go after the CS people, go after their shitty employers (also how evaluating them can literally cost them their job which is ridiculous) 
 @03a95182 how did you call them? My costumer service ppl seem to have been shutdown. I can’t even get the phone number to call.
