looks like the recent generation of foldable phones has gotten close to mature enough for daily use -less issues with the screen inside -battery life decent -software optimized -hardware looking nice I think I'll probably be a buyer for the next edition
Indeed 🤔 @GrapheneOS https://www.tomsguide.com/phones/android-phones/google-pixel-9-pro-fold
looks like the jump for next year's chipset is going to be big ... i would love to buy a pixel 10 pro fold and run graphene on it
all I want is a phone sized computer that runs unhindered Linux or BSD, that works as well on a large screen as it does in a small screen. Tis all.
I think this would be wonderful and also that you may have to make it yourself 🫂. Could maybe repurpose a steam deck?
I have a pine phone. Still doesn’t work, for the same reasons. The human factor. Then again, it’s been almost a year since I checked the landscape…
I was hopeful for an Ubuntu phone or Firefox phone back in the day
Yep. 😆 I bought a Librem 5 2 years before release. Never got it. Got a Pinephone early, looked promising, then software wars. First world Phone woes. I stopped complaining (except for right now apparently) and bought an old thinkpad. 🤷😄
Do you not use the pine phone? Do you not like it? Does it at least work as a phone?
I don’t use it. I got frustrated with the SXMO project, which was the only thing that made it usable IMO, and I haven’t used it much. The SXMO project had attracted the involvement of people like the guys from Suckless software, Drew Devalt if I remember correctly, and others, which pretty much meant running SXMO, it had a chance of becoming one of the coolest phones on the planet. But it seemed like some fame hungry young developer made douchey decisions and those people lost interest.
Well that’s lame, Thank you.
I got a Samsung Fold 3 and it's been my daily driver for 2 years now. The folding screen has a little crease in the middle and my factory screen protectors are long gone but the battery life holds up and it's still super fast. I've dropped it like 3 times and it's still working perfectly. I won't go back to a normal phone. I absolutely love it. The newer folds look even better. I'm excited to upgrade eventually tbh. 🤙
≈60% of modern folding phone quality analysis should focus on the hinge and how the displays work with it
