If you really want to get out into the weeds you could make the case that any of the pre-reformation schisms could technically count as protestant. If you are an orthobro, I hate to break it to you, but you are a protestant
Yep, nailing the 99 thesis to the door of the church. Tyndale predates him by a bit when it comes to attempting to translate the Bible into Germanic languages (the Catholics dug up Tyndale's body to ex-communicate him for it), but Luther was the father of all splits from the Catholic church, from the Anabaptists to the Calvinists (Presbyterians).
