Tyndale predates him by a bit when it comes to attempting to translate the Bible into Germanic languages (the Catholics dug up Tyndale's body to ex-communicate him for it), but Luther was the father of all splits from the Catholic church, from the Anabaptists to the Calvinists (Presbyterians).
