who mines lighting?
Benjamin Franklin
does he get all the 1sat fees?
He runs a static node, so no. 🤣 I run 3 nodes. One works and is nearly perfect, the other two are work in progress / experimental.
im going to do something similar. Start9 as my main, mac mini running another and some type of linux running another
My Start9 is work in progress. Everybody raves about it, so I believe I am unique, but, for me, it is missing some critical components and the UI is difficult to navigate. For one I need a VPN like Tailscale. Tor is just awful to use and I am mostly remote from my nodes, so Umbrel tailscale is critical for my use, both from an admin perspective, but also from a remote spend perspective: Tailscale, + Zeus to access my node. I understand a new Start9 OS is on it's way with much better UI and a VPN, but I've been waiting for well over a year for it.
You can still use Lightning Terminal... It's not as fast as Tailscale but it'll do the job
say I do 6 zaps to some people, do the miners earn the fees? Do the actual miners earn lighting fees or is it completely off chain? nostr:nevent1qvzqqqqqqypzpn0vcvwxm9qxaxnadvqxwsf25esan5cusq6u8lt9cp3sr5w2cwujqy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyv9kh2uewd9hj7qghwaehxw309aex2mrp0yhxummnw3ezucnpdejz7qpqed3jxx0836hzzek2zq0ttmdq3ynkusd5my8et0s6eelrw4y7fnrq797p22
It's off chain. Lightning transactions go solely over the lightning channels. On chain fees are only incurred, and paid, for on chain transactions, which, with regard to Lightning, only occur when money enters the Lightning network, or leaves it. As long as it's lightning to lightning, there are no fees paid to miners. There may be smaller fees paid to the lightning network, but in my experience these are usually either zero or a couple of sats at this time.
Nobody "mines" lightning. But if you run a Lightning node, you can set fees -- and transactions that go through your system will thus pay those to you. Now, setting fees is tricky business, as setting them too high will just ensure things route around, rather than through your system. But in any case, it's more like a toll than a mining reward, as with on chain transactions.
