You are right it may never become mainstream, people don’t care about privacy enough.
The question is, what makes a social network “take off” the populace or the ad revenue?
Lets build a sign in the middle of the field for advertising vs Lets build a billboard on the major highway right before the exit they need to take. No ads are ever built in isolation
Thus, ad revenue follows eyeballs and not vice versa. I think a good example of this is the explosion of individual content creators beginning to pull ad revenue away from MSM.
I just think nostr needs a greater number of visionaries and designers not lone devs building in isolation without any feedback loops, this I see as a bitcoin culture that nostr inherited added with the certain levels of complexities encouraged by the bitcoin ecosystem that is finding its way into nostr.
