It is true though, as hard as it is to swallow 🐶🐾🫂💜🫡
I have much respect for the devs building Nostr and on Nostr. And I want everyone to have much success. But reality is that most people aren’t going to pay for something they can get elsewhere for free.
Yes ser! I’ve learned that working on nostr.build. Unless you have something that’s only available behind the pay wall, people rarely pay. Friends for sure, but majority will not and rightfully so 🐶🐾🫡
Define free 😇😜
The way most people define it: not having to directly pay money for it. Semantics, nothing is free, blah blah blah. I understand what you’re saying. 😜 But for most people, it’s “do I have to pay money or not for it?”
Yep, they don’t have any idea or care that they are “paying” in other ways. If we could educate them about how they’re paying, they probably still wouldn’t care.
Lol probably not. As long as the ads aren’t too obtrusive. 😂😂
Even if they are, most people will just say, “I scroll past it. Who cares?”
Most don’t mind using their privacy as a payment too 🐶🐾🤣
Exactly. With the same justification, “Who cares, I’m boring, I don’t do anything wrong, they can find it all anyway if they wanted to.” 🤷♂️
That’s 💯! And in majority of cases that is true too. Most of the data are behavioral statistics that can be used to target people and marketing campaigns. But on grand scale, it makes everyone an easier target, even if you are not partaking in that 🐶🐾🤣😭🫠
“Watch 3 ads to view your zaps” 😂
Watch ads for sats model will also work 🐶🐾🤣👀⚡️👀⚡️👀⚡️👀
Lol it’s true. That was actually how Tweetoshi (the Plebstr team’s old Twitter client) worked. They showed ads in the feed users were paid sats for spending time on the app.
Genius 🐶🐾🤣🤣🤣
why not have ads on the media clips uploaded into Damus zap split the ad revenue between hosting service and the client that it got uploaded with
Easy to do but the turnoff is huge for me. I’d pay not to waste time on that crap 🐶🐾🫡
I’d be gone
Yeah, I am with you. Let them have an ad placement in the video, that works better anyway. Even a fucking fake reviews are better than a stupid ad 🐶🐾🫠🫠🫠
Or I guess I’d be paying not to see it. Then I’d be doing a cost benefit analysis of using that client.
people will not pay until there's a reason to pay people will always rather pay to run away from ads, instead of paying to run towards better features YouTube Premium and Spotify Premium mostly run on that model
We have not seen overt ads on Nostr yet. It will be interesting the reaction when it happens, wherever it happens.
Let’s try posting ads now! You know, just download it and see what people think 🐶🐾🤣🤣🤣 (Goes to find some ads for download)
nostr.build ads as video clips with referral links
Let’s fucking go! 🐶🐾🤣🤣🤣
But ad is just a meme 😂😂
corndalorian i need #memevertisements

😂😂😂😂😂 dude, i'd pay to see these
🤣🤣🤣
That is actually a great model. If users got even a small cut of what that the ads were paying the client and relays for hosting it would feel better as a user. It would also give a balance to zap with without having to get out a credit card and buy sats with. Most of the payout would get spent in the nostr ecosystem.
True true. No education can help at this point, and that’s fine 🐶🐾🫡
i dont know that i disagree with you, but i do find it interesting how many (young)developers are absolutely certain they have a complete experiential and prophetic understanding of all humanity. 🤓
We are just speculating based on our experiences 🐶🐾🤣🫂
Today I have seen a lot of people saying "hey I'll pay for this" and devs still saying "no one will pay for this" Come on guys 😂 https://image.nostr.build/634ff3cd958974c7e235bf7c1c709fc8772734529ea12b15f5ab4fd284f6cfd1.gif
I hear you 😍 optional subscriptions coming up. Thank you! We have to try things and then regroup. This is a start
I am very optimistic that emulating the pledge drive / donation model of public radio, tv can be utilized here. It has scaled, it supports a niche product and is proven. Heck churches been doing something similar forever now. Making a concerted effort to design a professional, structured schedule to ask for donations, set tramsparent targets...makr it fun dare i say with cool games utilizing this new tech were all in to ?? Completely valid, proven business model. What am i missing here ?
In reality they only say that, in my experience very few pay unless it’s only behind paywall 🐶🐾🫡
Wait until Nostr grows enough to make the load on relays too much for it to be tenable to run a free public relay. That is, unless you're a big corp offering a free relay so that you can mine, aggregate, and sell the data to advertisers and governments. At that point I'll finally stop using a blastr relay.
Yeah I think so too. And let's say nostr picks up in popularity, they won't even know or care who the devs are. Probably could have some sort of donation goal bar on every app, which again most people would ignore. Probably an idea if a client was just upfront and said they're taking a certain % from z@ps (with a cap or something? No idea ¯\_(ツ)_/¯).
I would much rather see a percent of my incoming zaps be split and go to pay for/toward my use of an app. If the app makes it easy for someone to create and publish their content, and then a defined % of zaps to that content goes back to help support the app, then it’s mutually beneficial.
Yep, could be opt in/out even, I would happily opt in to that and let it just happen in the background. I would be happy even if it was an opt in, would probably have to be transparent on sign up or whatever. I think that would be more of a big deal for more popular people than me lol
I like how it aligns the incentives. Creators (and even other users to a lesser degree) are already incentivized to create good content because it’s a source of their revenue. Client devs are incentivized to make apps that creators will use for monetizing their content. They could provide a couple options: 1) split of incoming zaps, or 2) flat rate subscription. And choosing either option could give them access to a set of features, extra media storage, streaming bandwidth, etc. All the things they’d need anyway to continue putting out their content.
Very well put! Many people don’t realize that for some it doesn’t even matter if it makes a huge profit, as long as people are willing to pay even a symbolic amount. It’s a signal that is hard to ignore. Without it it feels just like yet another job that you are doing and getting nothing in return 🐶🐾🫂🫡
It took two decades to convince people that Freemium was the best model. It's going to take time to convince people that better models exist and that Freemium is bad. It's going to take years, not months.
💯 nostr:nevent1qqsdcvpu8hd4c335ru0zmthwhxc3asnqxhjk9xhn0h6km3c20vwg4jcpp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mqzyruwd3jrgtc7q5jgqccwylsszmwwxh7r5c2wvpp5lm625fgrx2x2jqcyqqqqqqgt6p8lf
But you dont need most people. You only need a small % of people that like to pay every now and again, few times a year. Like buying records or going out. There are so many people that want to pay. But you need to give them a good reason. “We poor give us sats” only works once a year. Give people extra features and they will pay happily. There is many such premium features I just thought of one simple one. nostr:note156vzqqw3f0eqcqknwdtawru3fz7ukmmm4c0dx39axk39u3ztwj3sdjapza
Hard pill to swallow... Probably should be co-prescribed with the nostr suppository 😳 nostr:nevent1qqs846vedl2k6x3kn6lxzjt7zkpuzf9ut7kp2u977apg4y2rpqfhgwgpz4mhxue69uh5yetkduhxummnw3erztnrdaksygplwuxkt5a8vj5utj6s8tsj8e3wcavc45p4mqmw92qs7wrh5azmyspsgqqqqqqshmnejh
