My debate is which onion deserves the title of Onion. For me, it's the humble Yellow Onion that should be the default. Along those lines, the russet potato is the default potato. The beefsteak tomato is the default tomato.
These choices are reasonable

Same with cabbage. When you order cabbage from a wholesale, it’s marked as ‘red cabbage’ even though it’s CLEARLY purple. Here’s one for y’all: yam…or sweet potato? (The red yams 🍠) I always want to call them sweet potatoes. Once I got a whole case of actual sweet potatoes and not red yams (they’re white flesh sweet potatoes) and was like…what the hell do I do with these?
hahaha these are great! I think I call it purple cabbage, so this is fascinating to learn that this is also a debate. Now for the sweet potatoes and yams, I can never tell when I am at the market. I feel like they dont know either. hahaha We are going to take a nostr veggie course by you!! You should take side by side pictures and we can meme it. ahaha

Red onions are the best onion to use when you need it raw, such as in salads, guacamole, pico de gallo, sandwiches, and hamburgers. White onions are best when you’re cooking them hot in a pan, such as a sauté, stir fry, fajitas, and the like. Yellow onions are for soups and stews, where you cook them long and slow in a broth. Exceptions can be made if color of the dish is important. For example, when I make San Francisco Clam Chowder, it needs to be white as white. So I use white onions instead of yellow. #cooking
