@d72d5211 Sometimes it seems to come down to a happiness to spend 10x in capitalised cost during implementation, heaps of which goes to consulting firms, on something that might last 5 years before replacement. Few businesses seem to think about doing things themselves and considering it cost of operation by employing people to do it. Then even after the initial capital outlay they still dont have the personnel so keep going back to the consultants at exorbitant prices time after time.
@d72d5211 Its almost like they don't realise that outsourcing your design, build and operation doesn't mean you don't have an IT function in your organisation, it just means you're paying somebody else to do it. And you might be paying way more than it could cost you, with far less oversight.
@f6e80af8 yup. Organisations, as a rule, are really really bad - hopeless - at doing anything sensible with digital technology. I think it's because they see it as completely disconnected from their core business (although, I'd like to see how far they get without any at all. Nowhere, methinks).
