YES. I hate it so much. 
I appreciate those saying “Nostr fixes this” but the part it doesn’t really fix (at the moment, anyway) is that emails are like this. 
I have several email addresses that are not Gmail and most of them I no longer use, but they are used in account recovery. So every once in a while, I have to trek across two or three email accounts hunting for stupid codes.
