It's hard for me to say anything about Nostr is private. It can kind of be if you go through painstaking efforts from the start. It would indeed be nice to start moving in that direction as a default.
What do they expect anyway? If you've muted them then you more than likely won't reply to a dm.

Yeah, I respect people's right to mute who they want, also for some reason people think that if someone mutes them it means the person has something against them or hates them now, I mute people sometimes but don't mean anything by it.
Yeah. Sometimes people go on a posting streak of content I don’t care to see and I just want a temporary mute. Damus implemented this but it doesn’t seem to work. I’m also probably guilty of posting crap people don’t want to see like … flowers, generated illustrations, etc… I am aware that people may not care for it and may even want to mute it for some time until I snap out of it 😆 and I’m totally ok with that. Doesn’t mean people are not your friends.
Exactly 💯, people don't need to get all stressed about it, most the time when I mute someone it's either content I don't care to see or repeated posting so much it fills up my feed to the point I can't see anything else, or people who go through my profile and like everything in one go, most the time I unmute these people later.

Gossip has private mute lists. But I assure you that I'm not muting you. If I were, I would not have seen and replied to this post.

mute lists can already have private and public mutes but many clients don't implement private mutes. imo clients should allow you to choose if you want the mute to be public or private.

Agree, I have a few private muted words/npubs and most clients I've used don't honour them. Do you recall a nostr site where you could see who muted you? That was funny lol

It was the one tanel mentions, you could log in and it'd list the npubs that muted you. I can check with https://playground.nostr.com/ but that's not for everyone. I found out that some people follow me AND have me muted lmao
