Are expensive watches, cars, art, etc. a hard sell to famous people with money?
A thief can just as easily or more easily steal your rolex as you walk down the street as they can your bitcoin.
If people can manage to get a safe for their valuables, I don’t see why they can’t do the same for bitcoin.
For those that refuse or choose not to learn how to self custody, well the suits have an ETF for them 🤷🏽♂️
no one I know is wearing a rolex. It's about doxxing yourself and your location in times where btc is seen as a prized posession. Highly successful entertainers can afford security but there are loads of jobbing entertainers who are nowhere close to "rich" who could really benefit from #nostr and LN but the risks are real and important to point out when onboarding. I can't set them up with a wallet and say, 'do this gig and get paid in sats' without also saying, by the way you need to do x,y,z or you're putting you and your family at risk. I've always admired the Odell's, Preston's and McCormacks for putting themselves out there and was interested in their thoughts on it and the methods they might use.
"Afford" security? By this i assume you mean a professional 3rd party.
I think the “risks” you see in using NOSTR are way overblown. I mean these same people are on twitter. Attackers are not going to all the sudden target you because you are on NOSTR now and can steal the $3 you got in zaps.
The risks are in having poor opsec, but if you’re a public figure that ship sailed whether you have bitcoin or not
Most of the people I'm talking about aren't public figures but they do put themselves out there publicly. None of us have much in the way of btc (most have none) and zaps/ subscriptions are a way of earning it. BUT I think that path poses a risk.
Put yourself online, tell the world where you'll be 200 nights a year and that you earn sats online, I think that's bad opsec. No one knows how little btc you might have. Do they stop threatening you and/or your loved ones when you show them a shitty balance?
Do the rewards outweigh the risks? Maybe, but best to know the risks. I want it to work, I do, but it's a big hurdle for adoption. Most people here aren't showing their face or giving their name and it's for a reason.
