#asknostr I tried to use nostr.build to upload my 433MB video. However, I was prompted with an error that file size was too large.

Quick question, if I purchase nostr build storage is it worth? Eg. 10GB or 30GB. If yes, let say I have videos that I posted using the link on my storage, if I delete them from my storage, am I right saying that the link will no longer work on my previous post?

2nd q, is nostr.build the only place I can store my media files so I can post my videos to any nostr clients? The reason I asked because I am moving away from third party storage! This would a game changer for me as someone who likes to post videos. I know #nostr is for text protocol. I am just saying if there are other options so I can move away from Youtube and Tiktok?

Thanks,
M
That's quite big. You can try https://void.cat/ or https://satellite.earth/cdn but I would say nostr.build is the most solid we have right now.

https://flare.pub could also work.

The truth is we don't have good way to host large videos right now but the space is improving 🙏 💜

thank you for responding to me. I will look into those links. I do not mind paying for storage if it is a way forward to move away from draconian tech like FB, Google etc. I tried to look FAQ on the Nostr.Build but could not find it. Perhaps, I may have missed. It would be great to know more about my first question so I know what I am getting. I am still new to this community. I plan to move away from Youtube and Tiktok completely. Hence, it would be great to know how I can transition my move.
Ask me any questions you have, I’ll try to answer. We have TOS but not FAQ. We usually are fairly quick to reply and provide accurate information 🐶🐾🫡
hi 😊 nice to e-meet you. Do you have answer to my 1st question on my original note? ty
Your assumption is correct, once you upload a video you’ll get a link that you can share in your notes. We are not yet performing any sort of transformation on the video, so we suggest for you to use HandBreak and transcode it into Web Optimized 720p mp4. h264 codec is good for SDR, while h265 for HDR but will limit the compatibility somewhat. If you later decide to delete the video, the link will stop working as you expected. Our service uses CDN to ensure fast delivery of the content, so it’s best to keep the size under 500mb which is sufficient for an hour long high quality video content in 720p (including moderately dynamic one with 30 fps frame rate) . Hope that helps 🐶🐾🫡🫂
The reason I am suggesting 720p or less is because a lot of clients (video viewers) are on mobile networks and on the phone, and we do not yet have VBR (Variable Bit Rate) implemented that would have taken care of that problem. I am planning to have something ready this year, so please stay tuned 🐶🐾🫡
Thanks for getting back to me. I will look into your suggestions. I will do it to all my videos. I may have found a temporarily fixed on my video challenge. To everyone responded, thank you for all the help! 😊
I just downloaded HandBrake and it is very useful piece of tool! I was searching for video encoder when I posted my question to reduce the media size and could not get a decent one. This is great! You are legend! 😀
Thanks! If you have any questions about video transcoding, please do not hesitate to ask 🐶🐾🫂💜
hi 😊 nice to e-meet you. Do you have answer to my first question on my original note?
I tagged FishCake who is the developer of nostr.build ... I bet he will comment on your first question.

I am hopeful the video options will get better. Thank you for your curiosity and patience!
no worries. I will wait for his response. I am rooting for #nostr and I am crossing my fingers that it is here to stay! 🫰
I would also consider paying satoshi for a YouTube alternative on NOSTR with reasonable time and size of possible uploaded videos (1-2gb size and 1h30m length per video would be great). Maybe it already exists, I was sleeping on nostr last few months and now I am slowly waking up looking around and trying to find out how much did I miss.
if your video/s is less than 2 minutes long theres a free third party storage, it belongs to elon musk lol
so you are on X's payroll then? LOL 😅🤣
thanks but no thanks! 😀
i wish, just saying its free to use if you have an account there
Most of my videos are more than 2 mins long. But thanks though. I did not know we can use X's storage and post it here on Nostr. It still would not meet my requirements of moving away from YT or Tiktok. 😊
 nostrcheck.me is also good.
I thing your 30GB doesn't mean to load one large file. Try to shrink your video with some utility (hundreds are available developed for mobile)
