My grandpa, God bless his soul, when I decided to make a career out of hockey, tried to convince me to get a government job, because of the job security that comes with it.

He was an immigrant who left Italy to start a new life in Canada, after WW2. He didn't speak the language, didn't know anyone and came with nothing. He made a living from working construction jobs. 

I find it kinda weird that his advise for me was so risk adverse, especially since I was 18 at the time. Who the fuck wants to play it safe at that age?
