if someone posts some dumbshit, they literally sign off on the dumbshit and if someone who read it doesn't like it they can share it to others by broadcasting it or posting it to a public relay

so, it's a leaky bucket, no matter what, you always have the possibility of a private relay sending your note to someone who decides to broadcast it 

 i thought that was the whole point of Nostr: dumbshit posting that no one can censor. 

or are you talking about Nudes getting out and no one being able to get them back in? like a zoom call when you use the toilet and mash the camera button instead of mute?

with dumbshit, isn't that how you eventually get to the bottom of the matter? like fecal sampling in sewers can tell what is going on in a population. 

 well, i think the main thing is that most of the centralised social intermediaries presume copyright on messages and they don't give anything resembling evidence that a court could adjudicate on

whereas nostr events are verifiably the product of their authors, very high quality of evidence in a court 

 ohh... hmm. so we should look up libel, slander, impersonation, etc laws? 

 i don't really care about that stuff, because if i hate someone that bad i don't dig up dirt i just blot them out of my life and avoid everything about them that i can, i might even migrate if this person cannot be avoided

but yes, two things:

you can't stop people from gathering workable evidence

you can't stop this evidence being generated unless you don't generate it 

 as one should, no reason to give any energy to things that we don't like.

is it pacifist to get out of the way of a violent entity or group, and refuse to join the war that they are starting?

i think there is two ways of interpreting the concept of pacifism - one is bending over, the other is gtfo

i'm a pacifist but i am a gtfo pacifist

once the violence inevitably abates i'm still there and the participants are more damaged than me 

 that's an interesting reframing of that meme about the peasants with pitchforks vs swords.
