What about Muun?
Muun isn't technically a self custody Lightning wallet. Can you do Lightning? Yes, but fees can be as high as on-chain fees sometimes.
Muun is self custody. It is not real lightning though.
That being said, it’s my preferred onboarding wallet because receive fees are zero despite not being proper Lightning, and they do get to self custody. I tell them that they will need to understand the base blockchain layer and the true Lightning layer if they really want to learn more, but this is just a starting point. I haven’t found any other balance I’ve been comfortable with for onboarding.
The bitcoin portion of the wallet is self custody.
Which of these work with Nostr and Damus?
If you want to receive Zaps, @ZEUS is the only one that supports receiving them via Lightning address. If you want to send Zaps, all will work, but @OpenSecret is the only one that supports Nostr Wallet Connect for easy one tap to zap.

Mutiny does not support LN address, yet, but I believe it's coming soon via Fedimint. If you want self custodial LN address now, Zeus has it.

It’s really hard. It’s difficult to setup, it’s difficult to manage, it breaks easily, and it rarely works like you want it to without a lot of effort, or you have to already be a guru or a super user. I’m a technically illiterate pleb whose been a bitcoiner for about 4-5 years now. I run my own node, I self-custody in cold storage… but I still can’t use Lightning effectively. Shit is fucking difficult and annoying.
good luck using those alternatives while traveling and dealing with pleb street merchants who dont speak your language or know if they are using lightning or on chain most of the time. WOS still serves a purpose, greasing on the on ramps. nothing changed the other day except its not available on apple or google stores. Is that where you downloaded the others from? lol. better to teach them about android, VPNs, APK installation. if they are still new and uncomfortable, telling them to open inbound liquidity channels to receive a payment is gonna result in them asking you to pay for your chimichanga in fiat... teach a man to fish.
I think would be wise to reaxh out everyone you know is using #WaS and explain then what's happening and what are the alternatives. I wouldn’t recommend Zeus at the moment when it a iPhone. Because they have problems with their Apple account. Let’s see how this ends up.
