Remember: Relays can see your filters. If you are searching for weird/illegal content, the relays you use can always see what the app is asking for and what it got as a result.
And there is no way to avoid this. So, make sure you trust your relays with that type of information.

I really love post like these, good morning, have a wonderful day. 🍀
It’s an argument for dumb relays if I’ve ever heard one, tbh.
So, only connect to an owned relay?
One could spin up sub addresses like a HD wallet but for different nostr identities and apply different modes like (one time addresses for sensitive things or an alt account to build a network of personalities to engage with others)
Relay.nostriches.org doesn't care or have time to see what feet pics you looked up, but stay vigilant in knowing how things work.
What about normal/illegal content like on the 2nd Amendment
(rhetorical but possibly poignant)
Perhaps all relays should be private federations...with statements of principle...perhaps even bylaws...almost like a contract...
...wait, a relay is the technological building block of an actual DAO
I have been pushing for explicit terms of service for quite some time. But most relay operators don't have the time or expertise to design a policy like that. :(
In my eyes, relays become a little too important... can there be a decentralized backbone for small data transfers like dms or something?
NIP-65 helps, but we are just starting this journey. There is a lot of work to do to decentralize the relay infrastructure.
I dont know if you have seen my posts but I was thinking of merging reposts and send them to a dedicated space in the app as a way to remove the clutter.
This was one of my posts
A client-side user-defined pattern-based everywhere-applied search/select/filter/other_functions-utility in order to make fast selection of spam messages and remove them.
Why do we need ai if we can just do it ourselves?

plus a splitted feed defined by user rules.
I believe if the user can define clientside filtering its a winwin. perfectly adjusted to user choice, and the work gets taken of the relay. This is ofcourse the best with small messages. So there is an incentive to keep post data small. Which improves data storage efficiency.

I have nothing to hide, and there are no topics that the law forbids me to search 😅
So when governments and businesses start running relays this will allow for significant tracking and data harvesting?
If you connect your user to them, yes.
Espero que nao tenha usado email real n sua conta da walletofsatoshi 😁
Great insight for all of us to be safe on Nostr ☺️

There’s no way to avoid this… so far.
But seriously, bloom filters would allow you to obfuscate the actual criteria—but then again, the relay could still probably deduce a good guess based on the results.

so all searches are tracked and logged by relays and related to nsecs and ip addresses?
Even if I am not searching for wierd/illegal content, this is still an erosion of privacy.
What if I set amethyst to connect to ONLY my own private relay?
Is that a bad idea?
