Has anyone tried to open an iPhone using someone’s picture lol?
I guess many people try it but it's useless because it use multipoint infrared, it need a 3d face with exact distances between the eyes, nose, mouth https://image.nostr.build/3865bd964fb0dd0c356fbf18a3f94eb7a7c5b86c3ff7772a5b0c8e5f0ae9f506.jpg
How about a wax sculpture?
Not sure about apple face id, but the technology use by facetec.com is a face scan using video from any hd camera + ai for creating a 3D face scan, they claims it safe from attack vectors like: Paper masks with eye & mouth cutouts Hollywood masks, m wax figures & lifelike dolls https://image.nostr.build/d9734ac7e378babe70fb75690c0ddead4d7f9dea5bd3471949245efdbebcdd79.jpg
LiDAR should allow it.
*shouldn't
I bet someone could use freeware photogrametry software to reconstruct your face, then 3D print a model that might fool the lidar...
It was possble in the past. Now, few years later I am not sure. Anyway, if you ever get into trouble, hold locking button and volume buttons at the same time and it will close the screen and disable faceID
What would be the thing that would prevent something like this from working? Photogrametry has vastly improved, as has 3D printing. If there's a visual component involved, then it's not hard to project a person's face onto the printed form. I haven't looked into the latest apple capabilities since, quite frankly, IDGAF, but I suppose I should learn more.
