@0f342e77 @8c2ace29 @a8a3ca9d @02439a38 @b870d4c8 re private firms in the NHS Action on day one is a silly concept But I would expect #labour and #WesStreeting to start by not planning to *increase* the out-flow of resources from the #NHS to the private sector - And my concern isnt a "far-left", niche, #Corbynista fetish - its a *majority* view among voters https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/ournhs/three-quarters-of-uk-public-worried-more-nhs-privatisation-will-damage-care/ No surprise that private health interests have " donated " to Wes and KS https://inwhoseinterests.uk/2022/06/08/hedge-fund-labour-why-is-the-party-of-the-nhs-now-receiving-money-from-private-health-investors/comment-page-1/ https://s3.eu-central-2.wasabisys.com/mastodonworld/media_attachments/files/111/034/594/053/481/986/original/5e9d5817e44d24b9.jpg
@ee4cb8b5 @8c2ace29 @a8a3ca9d @02439a38 @b870d4c8 1/ Mate, people are DYING whilst waiting for treatment! 🙄 You've two choices. 1. Leave waiting lists high & make the NHS staffing worse by immidiately cutting out the private sector. 2. Get people treated, & if that means targeted immigration to fill NHS vacancies & extending private sector involvement in the short/medium term, then so be it. These are the only two practical & realistic options available to us.
@ee4cb8b5 @8c2ace29 @a8a3ca9d @02439a38 @b870d4c8 2/ #Starmer has already tackled this issue. Statistically it could take up to 18 years to have permanent UK only residents working within the NHS, & to remove all vestiges of the private sector. These are empirical, independently verified figures, which show how long it will realistically take to reverse 13 years of criminal Tory mismanagement, & the destruction of our public services & utility infrastructure Now tell me your alternative
@0f342e77 @8c2ace29 @a8a3ca9d @02439a38 @b870d4c8 ""it could take up to 18 years to have permanent UK only residents working within the NHS.... "" Who thought of this? #NickGriffin ? Creepy and weird and irrelevant #UKPolitics #UKPol #labour
@ee4cb8b5 @8c2ace29 @a8a3ca9d @02439a38 @b870d4c8 No. It was #Starmer's response to the #Tories accusing him of wanting to open the immigration floodgates, hence why everyone should vote #Tory to protect Brexit. So in the short-term, Labour suggest targeted immigration to urgently fill NHS vacancies, but his long-term aim is to train UK workers to fill these voids, thus reducing the UK's reliance on oversea workers. We're battleing with the Tories on many fronts, immigration be just one
@0f342e77 @8c2ace29 @a8a3ca9d @02439a38 @b870d4c8 There is of course a third option (and many others) 3) leave the private sector in place where it is already functioning but do *not* divert more money from the NHS to private profit Fund the NHS properly enabling staff to be retained and vacancies filled
@ee4cb8b5 @8c2ace29 @a8a3ca9d @02439a38 @b870d4c8 1/ Finally, you've actually offered a solution as opposed to bellyaching about #Starmer! 🙄 You've FINALLY accepted Starmer's view that it would be political madness to just dump the private sector, without an alternative in place. So a question to you. How long will your process take? 🤔
@ee4cb8b5 @8c2ace29 @a8a3ca9d @02439a38 @b870d4c8 2/ The UK's skint, so please tell me where the additional money will come from to reduce waiting lists, if we don't divert money away from the NHS to the private sector who currently have spare capacity? Fund the NHS properly using what money? 🤔 Mate the UK's SKINT, & has a debt/GDP ratio of 101.1%. Where's the money coming from? 🤷🏾♂️
@0f342e77 @8c2ace29 @a8a3ca9d @02439a38 @b870d4c8 yes, its very notable that #starmer hasnt pledged any new money for health So everything going to the private sector comes from NHS budgets - The NHS capacity is largely constrained by staffing - inability to retain staff and fill vacancies So there is unused capacity in the #NHS too
