A husky next to a wolf.

Although wolf-like in appearance, huskies are no more closely related to wolves than poodles and bulldogs are.

And the size says it all. https://image.nostr.build/909a3257e8ab2176b6c789df90a1c1133c99e46d275287c7d58997e23ebc4a83.jpg
When I was working as a life insurance agent, I met a guy who had a German shepherd/timber wolf mix. He was enormous and intimidating but he was also a sweetie and a hugger. Wish I would have thought to download all my pics before I deleted Facebook a few years ago so I could show you guys.

 OK.
This irritated me the first time i saw it.

The Siberian Husky (along with other Arctic breeds including the Greenland Sled Dog, and Alaskan Malamute) is as closely related to their wolf ancestors as the Grey Wolf (pictured here) is.

That wolf is the extinct Taimyr Wolf. The divergence of the Huskey DNA predates the Gray Wolf all together.

For a dense, but technical, explanation of how this has been determined see here:https://www.sciencenews.org/article/ancient-dna-pushes-back-timing-origin-dogs

The TLDR is that this discovery pushes back the divergence of some dog breeds from 9500 years to 27,000-40,000 years.
It also explains the phenotypic similarities via DNA mutation rate difference that is much slower than previously thought.

 Incorrect, actually.
