This irritated me the first time i saw it.
The Siberian Husky (along with other Arctic breeds including the Greenland Sled Dog, and Alaskan Malamute) is as closely related to their wolf ancestors as the Grey Wolf (pictured here) is.
That wolf is the extinct Taimyr Wolf. The divergence of the Huskey DNA predates the Gray Wolf all together.

The TLDR is that this discovery pushes back the divergence of some dog breeds from 9500 years to 27,000-40,000 years.
It also explains the phenotypic similarities via DNA mutation rate difference that is much slower than previously thought.
