 The Nano G2 Ultra is a nice pre-assembled but still geeky device. It works off-shelf with power from USB, but you can easily add the recommended battery.

 I just got mine yesterday and have it up and running. I still have yet to connect with anyone. Tons of nodes around me but I cannot get messages through.. Will check the meshtastic group link above.
