I think Toyota as the world's largest auto manufacturer is in danger of being disrupted due to their status as an incumbent, and not a quick and nimble startup.

Tony Seba has the best research I've encountered on technological trends, and he predicts massive decreases in car ownership due to autonomous EV ride hailing services becoming the norm, i.e. transportation as a service (TaaS), and costs being driven down to very low levels.

As for Tesla, I'll be interested to see if their robotaxi service will be viable. Currently Waymo has the best technology, and Elon doesn't agree with their approach, but Waymo certainly has a much better safety record and is currently ahead, so we'll see.
Interesting I come from Detroit so I’m very familiar with the auto industry and I think you may be right. I’ve been thinking this since 2007 2008.
I just heard some thing about BYD
Thanks for the zap! Yeah, the BYD Seagull is around $10,000. It won't be sold in the US, and I think they're right to be scared. Despite the price point, it looks like a decent vehicle. I think Tony Seba predicted $5,000 EVs with at least 200 miles of range by 2030, but what I want is the cheap ride hailing.
I was reading that South America and Australia could really embrace this Car that could be a big blow to the big 3
Yeah, Europe too I think. Here's a video on some of that research: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vqs0_3M-18c I think they're going to release updated research soon too, so I'm pretty interested to know what they'll say now.
 Wow that’s pretty fascinating
