It will benefit the handful of them whose jobs aren’t automated into oblivion in the next few years. They accomplished nothing more than galvanizing public opinion against them.  

 they were dead either way. At least they get a bigger payday on the way.
No one thought about em before and now people hate em but they get paid. Probably worth it in their eyes.
