So I feel like there's a piece of information I'm missing here with #MeshTastic and it probably stems from my lack of understanding of ham radio and things like that. yesterday I was able to find six nodes and also yesterday after updating my software and ever since then I have not been able to find anything in town. And I'm wondering if it's a channel slot issue or what? I honestly don't know why I was I was able to see a few nodes and then after updating my node I haven't seen anything since. Whether I'm stationary or going through town. Kind of confusing. Any advice for a somewhat noob when it comes to mesh-tastic?
What can you do with mesh-tastic? :0
Off-grid messaging. Mostly text. It's not really well suited for data. Reticulum is a lot more flexible and I kind of like it a lot more.
Reticulum seems miles ahead. Meshtastic seems like a mid tier device with a marketing department.
It's kinda what it feels like. Granted, I don't have two meshtastic devices to test it, but reticulum just fucking worked. And I'm having a lot of issues with meshtastic.
But it has to work pretty decently though, because it seems to be doing a lot of good where the floods happened.
Ham radio is very susceptible to atmospheric conditions.
I was wondering if weather was going to be a problem. The rains just kind of started up where I'm at, so we have a lot of cloud cover.
Took one of mine for a ride today, but didn’t get any other node notifications… got to play with more, and now it makes me want to find a better antenna
Yeah, I'm out biking around running errands and fiddling with a meshtastic node that I have. When I get home, I'll plug it back into the stationery setup and do some more channel fiddling and maybe see if there's any information online about settings that people in my area are using.
