Considering the AI-hype @b92dcc07 People tend to forget, that in the 1960s, non-techies were fooled by Eliza. And spent hours with the psychotherapist telling Eliza their personal problems. So the current psychosis with ChatGPT is not completely new.
@d598c4a5 AFAIK, the "non-techies" here consists of one person, Weizenbaum's secretary, who never confirmed the story, which also has a Weizenbaumian shade of sexism to it ("that little lady couldn't tell she was talking to a computer! Women, amirite?"). There's a lot about it in Clair Evans' BROAD BAND, IIRC.
