I just received a direct message from someone 100 miles away that only required three hops 🤯 People seriously underestimate the power of networks and decentralized communications. nostr:nevent1qqsxrg9h24qf4wvjw0w4lmn403zaeq65p3k6xcvrtq2jnlun2p59tdqpzdmhxue69uhk7enxvd5xz6tw9ec82c30qgsrjxqeute0zwusetrjp9qeadt5aa7q686wsxr8lsjvg73uuh52yjqrqsqqqqqpgp4wwg
I thought meshtastic required line of sight. This is awesome. I'll have to order one.
I've been pleasantly surprised with how far it can reach. The message I sent from the plane on the flight in even received a confirmation at several thousand feet.
Wow that's amazing. I was just looking at the T-Echo. What device did you start out with?
I started with a t-deck, which is overkill, but I see that most nodes in the area are using heltec V3. I ordered two of those (~$40 each) and will report on the experience when I receive them. What may matter more is getting a large, high quality antenna and getting enough elevation.
Ahh thank you for the info. I am in an apartment at the moment and might have some trouble installing one, but I'll think about getting on just to have it.
What about up north towards SF?
Wow cool! What is the theoretical max distance for those things? I guess it depends on the antenna?
Does this have the potential to solve the ISP problem? I keep thinking, we can use as many decentralized tools to promote freedom, but as long as they run on the internet, we will always be hostages of the State via ISPs.
