 right, but feels unrealistic
 I don’t think so.

In my experience the key is to have one big thing in common, which sets a foundation where other stuff can be different.
I have friends who before the war (russia-ukraine) had a positive attitude towards russia. they believed that russia would never start a war. and that we were brothers and thats all. i disagreed with this but was ready to talk about it, but it almost never happened because emotions boiled over. now that they themselves have been under the bombing and understood everything about russia, they also don't want to talk about it anymore because they have to admit that they were wrong. it's unpleasant. this is how it turns out that the topics in which we disagree are simply not touched.
