Use @simplex messenger! It gives you the best #privacy protection.

Unlike #Signal it doesn’t need your phone number.

#Telegram and #WhatsApp not only want your phone number they collect loads of data and metadata from your device. Especially vile is the collection of your device‘s IMEI (device ID) and sharing all that data with companies to make money and with authorities due to the need to comply.

In authoritarian countries this metadata can cost you your life! https://image.nostr.build/02ffc444d66398e8906d442253c4993cd721e9a331f88819d0a4966ef1da2e3f.jpg
 What about #Session?
 Haven‘t used it.
Session was previously based on Signal Protocol before replacing it with their own in December 2020. Session Protocol does not support forward secrecy and backward secrecy.
I use it’s better than simplex because you can rotate your keys if you ever lose them
Did Signal remove the phone number requirement only for new accounts? I signed up for it a long time ago so it’s probably too late for me unless I start a new one. I do like SimpleX, even though it’s hard to find people outside of Nostr who have heard of it.
Doesn't seem so. First thing it asks is phone number. I assume they only added the option to share usernames instead of phone numbers. https://image.nostr.build/25cf5fd066f5d04fdfe63839ab78609de1af323623fd27a15e324e4395bfeb4f.jpg
That’s too bad. Having a phone number should not be a requirement to sign up for anything anymore.
True. To get a signal account you have to provide a phone number. You never have to share that number with contacts and signal seems to be pretty loose with accepting VOIP numbers. Regardless you shouldn't have to jump through hoops for privacy.

#Signal is best for friends and family. #SimpleX for sensitive coms. You just have to work around the having to have contact with the person first in order to give them your QR
Please also take a look at nostr:nprofile1qqsth7fr42fyvpjl3rzqclvm7cwves8l8l8lqedgevhlfnamvgyg78spz3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduq3qamnwvaz7tmwdaehgu3wwa5kuegpz4mhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejqj9swg4. It uses Signal's end-to-end encryption and runs with the Nostr protocol. You can use multiple keys for different chats.
 Interesting.
 Good advice

Added to public bookmarks thanks ⚡️💜
Wenn’s denn mal richtig laufen würde 😀
The best option so far imho for this context is keet.io

Pure p2p, e2ee, amazing performance as it runs without central server infrastructure
keet.io will become really great. But for now it’s to new and has still to much bugs and missing features. I also think it never will reach the privacy level of simplex.
Keet.io is not open source, who knows whats going on with that thing.
 Thanks.

Have you tried #Session?
Servus Anita! A disclosed IP address with SimpleX could also cost you your life. If you really want to protect you and your contacts then I recommend https://reticulum.network/

#Reticulum #RNS #LXMF #TOR #I2P #IP #decentralization #decentralisation #mesh #sovereign #communication #independent #interconnectable #autonomous #network #unstoppable #autonomy #sovereignty #telecommunication #Sideband #NomadNet #RNode #MeshChat #Meshnet #Meshtastic #LoRa #OffGridComms #notfallkommunikation #meshnetwork #freifunk #freedomtech #FunkFeuer #Openwireless #Fon
 …and use a VPN.
But then we have to trust the VPN providers again. But you know, we Bitcoiners prefer trustless solutions. And I think the #Reticulum network is the Bitcoin of communication networks.

The developer of the COLDCARD Bitcoin Hardware Wallet and Nostr Signing Device has also spoken enthusiastically about the Reticulum network:

I rather would, however most people keep on using this crap. Hard to get rid of...
 I thought Whattsapp was encrypted?
It is, but if an authority demands access to your data they’ll get it. And your metadata gives away a lot of information. When did you talk with whom, where etc.
"We kill people based on Metadata" -NSA
Encrypted after side client scanning so encryption matter a lot in this case
Session gives you a better censorship resistant messenger. Briar is also super underrated. SimpleX for groups is a pain in the ass.
 Wie siehts mit Threema aus?
There are no "free messenger" in this world. They all need money to run.

And there is only one messenger, that costs money and it´s also the most secure one! Only Threema does NOT store any metadata nor IP-Adresses plus you can use it 100% anonymous!

I have been using Threema around 2017 but no one else did. So I stopped. I think it’s a great tool.
One important thing though: many many people globally can’t afford to spend 6 USD on a secure messenger. They take what is the cheapest or free.
 Threema
central, non free,	costs

positive: open source app with documentation
positive: functioning and transparent business model
positive: no cryptocurrency or online payment systems planned!
positive: multi-device capable
positive: independent of phone number as identifier
positive: customized version “Threema Libre“ for Android does not require proprietary software library from Google or other third parties
unclear: tracker in Android app “Threma” (as payment versions cannot be checked by Exodus). But no trackers detectable in Android app “Threma work” (36 permissions): Exodus (external)
positive: according to webbkoll (external) no third-party cookies and no third-party requests (third-party)
negative: central service (= dependency)
negative: no interoperability resp. no interface to chat standard XMPP
negative: server code is not open source
negative: no native desktop app

Whoever pays the musicians also determines what is played.

Threema takes a few coins once and is therefore ONLY and EXCLUSIVELY committed to its users.

You can see who is behind the other messengers above. And they will already collect your data.

Threema collects nothing!
Threema already has to co-operate with the authorities, but at the latest when the EU chat control comes, nobody will believe these marketing promises anymore.
Everybody can read about that in their transparency report on their website

https://threema.ch/en/transparencyreport

And they give out 2 Informations about a Threema-ID:

1. Date (without time) of the Threema ID’s creation
 2. Date (without time) of Threema ID’s most recent login

These are the ONLY 2 Information they store!

The following information is only available if the user has chosen to use the respective optional functionality:

Only in case the user in question has chosen to link a phone number and/or email address with their Threema ID: Hash of the user’s phone number and/or email address

Only in case the user in question has chosen to use a third-party push service (and their ID was active within the last three months): Push token

So what....

 1.
SimpleX Chat has even fewer users

2.
Anyone who makes the protection of their privacy dependent on whether others do the same has unfortunately not understood privacy and data protection.

3.
30-40% of all Threema users use the app completely anonymously = without personal data, such as mobile number!

You won't find them using the automatic search function!

The solution is very simple:

Send everyone your Threema ID and then even the “invisible ones” will contact you !
