Users of Umbrel, MyNode, Lighting in a Box, Start9, Trezors, Ledgers, Coldcards, Passports etc...

Please be cautious in Telegram and Discord groups asking for help if something is not working. There are scammers and teams of scammers that monitor these groups and will DM you to try to solicit information about your node, seed words, private keys, accounts etc under the guise that they are support or the lead developers on projects.

DO NOT EVER ENTER SEED WORDS INTO A WEB SITE, no matter who you think you are talking to
DO NOT UPLOAD wallet files
DO NOT DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL "REPAIR" SOFTWARE that isn't in common use, verifiable etc.
DO NOT TRUST NAMES AND AVATARS to be who you think they are. VERIFY.

There is really no reason to ever immediately go to DMs for support. Issues can and should be solved in public where possible so that others can search for the same solution, and chime in if something is nefarious.

 Just don’t use TG it’s a lot easier 🤣
Or just don't use Umbrel, etc and learn how to roll your own. Otherwise you're just trusting someone else anyway, just a different someone...
Agree about rolling your own node but he absolutely nothing to do with how bad tg is. Tg is just horrible
Totally agree on TG. I wish more groups would use Matrix. I know not everyone likes the federated model but in terms of ease of use Vs privacy and control etc it's a good balance and a huge step up from TG/WhatsApp/whatever
This is the new, "don't click links in emails."

Here's an example of one of these scammers that reached out to me in DMs after fishing for a scammer. An hour ahead of me time wise. English isn't perfect.

Stay safe out there! 2024 is gonna be chock full of these clowns
"kindly delete your ticket on the real platform" lol these fraudsters have some balls.
If you got to the level of running a node and you give away your seed voluntarily. There was no hope to begin with.
I think a #mainvolume issued license is required to think. I think I am European, Swedish in fact. I think I am created by Sina for mainvolume.com

The telegram support model is really bad in this bitcoin space
I will strongly recommend to Telegram users to activate the (hidden) option to show the user unique Telegram ID.
Go to Settings -> Advanced -> Experimental settings -> Show peer IDs in profile.

That way you can see exactly with WHO you are talking, comparing the original user ID (from the main group) with the one is contacting you.

Also this ID is very useful to block multiple aliases at once and report them to Telegram admins.
Should be common sense. Why are people still falling for that... 🙄
It's a nightmare, as soon as you ask anything with the word help or issue or anything related, you get spammed by bot (or not) inpersonating admin or reputable people in the channel. There should be a way to mitigate that, no? Like a reputation system, or only having PM from users that have an old enough account or are admin in a group you are in or something else.
I even end up once in a complete fake support group for a Bitcoin wallet that was at the top of the results for having more (fake) members than the official group.

Also some migrate Discord, like Umbrel recently, but it's not much better there and Discord and the communities on it are so hard to use and confusing that I can simply not use it propely most of the time. Am I an old idiot or what? Why do you need dozens of channels, bots, pinned posts all over the place. Everytime I'm force to join a support community there I'm like: where should I start? Where can I search for similar questions already posted?

In the end I prefer much more a classic forum for support but these (like Umbrel one) seam more or less deserted or just populated by hopeless users looking for help and 1-2 superheros answering almost everything they could (like @DarthCoin at the time, thank you so much for all you did and still do).
