What’s don’t you like about the YouTube app?
Constant unskippable ads interrupting videos literally every few minutes. It's unwatchable.

And I'm not paying Google $20/m just to not be bombarded with ads.
Would a vpn with ad blocking capabilities help?
No, VPN ad blocking is DNS level, that doesn't stop YouTube ads. I already have AdGuard Home on my LAN, even with long blocklists it doesn't help with YouTube.
 try another release https://github.com/lamarios/clipious/releases/tag/1.16.4
Fixed it by installing armv7 instead of v8. It now runs with a proper Android TV focused UX and everything!

Clipious is the key! Just had to install armv7 not armv8 for the Android TV hardware.

Far superior UX, absolutely worth it!
