@6308f3bc @098a11ae it’s a tricky balance but in general I thing this is a good move. Raising a glass of Moldavian brandy in support.
@7314db5d @6308f3bc the French did it well ahead of their presidential election. Somehow, they got their newspapers to cooperate and refuse to print Russian disinformation.
US was less lucky in 2016 - Russians very likely had a hand in installing #tfg. These days it mostly the internet, with Xitter being Nazi Internationale Central.
@098a11ae @6308f3bc in the US there has been a collapse of newspapers and print journalism in general. It appears to be much easier to insert disinformation online.

I think that's true across the Western world. And that meant it was MUCH harder for good journalists to make a living.

So we end up with fact checking abandoned in many areas, rumours printed as fact, and a desperation for funding so bad that its taken from highly unreliable sources.
@7314db5d @098a11ae @6308f3bc the collapse of USA newspapers was shoved along by PE/Hedge funds draining them of their money. These funds have autocratic enemies of democracy as investors. So they happily will destroy the free press that used to be so critical of the autocrats for their human rights abuses.

It's even more tricky when cultural Russians here genuinely believe the crap they are told.
