@7314db5d @098a11ae I think that's true across the Western world. And that meant it was MUCH harder for good journalists to make a living. So we end up with fact checking abandoned in many areas, rumours printed as fact, and a desperation for funding so bad that its taken from highly unreliable sources.
@7314db5d @098a11ae @6308f3bc the collapse of USA newspapers was shoved along by PE/Hedge funds draining them of their money. These funds have autocratic enemies of democracy as investors. So they happily will destroy the free press that used to be so critical of the autocrats for their human rights abuses.
