 Not punch card old, but i did learn Fortran 77 in a freshman engineering class in 1994. Fortran syntax was still based on 70 characters per line to fit punched cards. Next semester the department switched to C++. Interesting fact the electrical modeling software PSS/E-PSCAD still uses Fortran. 
 I used punchcards once at an engineering firm to reload an original NRC approved/verified program, that we modified and were forced to compare our modified output to an original values which had to be reloaded from “cards” for recertification.   I think it was a government thing. 
 Never used 'em, but I did shuffle my dad's stack once... 
 Make no mistake. As a kid, I used to draw on the backsides of these.
