I resolved the situation by just not screwing it down for now, until I get the right screw. The M.2 drive is just kind of floating in there, connected on one side.
Didn’t want to close the case without at least partially completing my mission. Happily playing Baldur’s Gate 3 now that I have the storage for it.

Just face it Lyn..you have to make a trip to the hardware store.
I know you can do it, I believe in you!
Now we need a Nostr Lyn gamer Livestream
Honestly mine has been floating for about a year now without any issue. I don't say it aloud often because I'm embarrassed lol but I didn't have a problem and I've even had to move the PC around!
I hope you don't have a cat😄 Ditching useless stuff of years just before you need it is a basic Murphy law. Just today my husband yelled at me "SO YOU'LL ORDER A NEW ONE ONLINE WHEN YOU'LL NEED IT" and also called me a hoarder.😌
One of the most productive people vs one of the most addictive games.
Let's see who wins.
I hope the dice are HOT today!
Does that missing screw serve to provide optimal electrical contact through leverage?
Don't worry. I built tonnes of pc's and i always used the bar minimum of screws necessary.
CD-ROM/Hard drive: 1 screw
ISA/PCI cards: no screws
Chassis: no screws
COM/LPT/VGA port cables: no screwing
The worst that ever happened was that maybe once or twice a cable came loose and only once when i tried to plugin my vga cable in the videocard that it came loose from its pci slot. Fortunately because i had no screws on the chassis either that was fixed in a minute.
Yes why screwing? there is no mechanical part. You could use blue tack.
