Someone considering an app modifying their own built-in feeds to censor posts by certain people with reason as “censorship” even though all of those posts are visible in every other way in the app.

I don’t need reminding of what censorship is or what little it has anything to do it’s what you’re implying it is. It’s an insane notion that you’re claiming censorship in my eyes. I say within their reasoning because it’s within their app. It didn’t impact anything within Nostr, just their app (Correct me if I’m wrong if they were manipulating posts as a relay operator). Your nsec is your data is your experience. I don’t like it so I don’t use the app - it’s that simple in my eyes. I don’t have to be complicit because it’s not my app, it’s my nsec. If someone wants to make a Nostr app that ruins the way any one person believes Nostr should be viewed or read, so be it. That’s a strength of Nostr. This stuff happening now in Nostr’s infancy is all the better to help flesh out bad practices and how Nostr software can be adapted to address them - because there absolutely will be worse offenders. Trending feeds or some other company doing custodial keys is nothing compared to what’s to come and you and the Miljan guy are going to be more comparatively aligned the more Nostr grows. Why didn’t their users know? Great question, get down from your soapbox and talk to the guy outside of text-based comms and ask him. It’s his app. My guess is he’s not legally obligated to. Lastly, yes I am constantly amazed that anyone would be surprised Twitter works any differently or should have to - it’s their app.
I’m not sure how “it’s their right” turns into “you can’t criticize it, because they can do what they want”. The whole point is anyone can make whatever client they want AND if it sucks or does something someone doesn’t like (like not being transparent about filtering) there can be push back.
I would say try talking about it. What’s there to lose? And at least constrictive disagreements to learn from rather than just trash-talking. I would agree on false advertising if there was a product. Unless I am mistaken, Primal doesn’t have a product yet (correct me if I’m wrong). What’s censorship to me on Nostr? If someone finds a way to effectively suppress your shared information or ability to share thoughts, expression, ideas, or information based on its content. I just don’t see how that could have happened here, not only on Nostr as a whole but even on Primal as the only way anything was altered was in the trending stuff. And about shadow-banning, where was the shadow part of that ban? At no point did you post something that wasn’t rendered onto Nostr or Primal (correct me if I am wrong here too. Im going off of only what I saw with my testing). If Nostr was gamed like that it wouldn’t be Nostr and we wouldn’t be here. Regarding what they said or haven’t said, I can’t be sure I’ve read it all so I don’t think I can speak fully on it but in what I did read they did try to say why they did this. I think they even said what they have done since too in a later post. I totally agree with what you’re saying about this stuff but Censorship (in my opinion) and Shadow-Banning effectively hasn’t happened on Nostr yet and I think that describing this as that is undervaluing the importance of those worse that, in my opinion, will need to be to be used more pointedly in the future when more manipulation happens that impacts all of nostr, not just an app that reads and displays the data.
The difference is you’re not telling people “Twitter is…” or “Truth Social is…” We’re already on Nostr. The second Primal has an option for being custodial without key export I will join you in almost everything you’re saying. I wont post randomly on top posts cussing stuff out unrelated to the original post but i would certainly agree Primal is censoring Primal* (not nostr).
I had no idea that the term shadow banning is changing in meaning. Maybe I’m getting old. Banning and downranking seems drastically different to me. I never used Twitter so maybe I’m pot of the loop on Shadow-banning. Fair enough. So funded for and consumer sales seem unrelated to me in false advertising and breach of EULA etc but maybe I’m wrong. I’m lost on the NSFW Primal situation. Was this the same post that was the one in the top of the trending chart? I never saw the content. If it is the same one I need to re-read Miljans explanation post because I think it didn’t mention that as the reason.
Sounds to me like it was a quick implementation to make sure it was as NSFW-free as possible (which in my mind would not be censorship if that’s how they want their app to work) but I’m probably too forgiving and naively assuming resources were the issue and not ill intent. I will look into it so I can learn more though.
