2. Unsolicited commercial advertising over lightning It seems inevitable that lightning addresses will be scraped and compiled and used to send unsolicited messages (with a payment attached). What are your thoughts about this? How should it be managed? What are the benefits/downsides?
Free sats, never even need to look at the included memo.
We get paid. We ignore the ads. Sounds like a win.
The benefits is it makes it costly to spam, a lot of people have proposed lightning payments as a spam filter for things like email, it rewards the end user for viewing advertising directly. The downsides, maybe there is some technical problem with consuming network bandwidth, but that just provides node operators with routing fees. Maybe it pushes up fees on the network, or reorganizes fees to account for the amount of data sent?
No complaints about free sats, except that I would like to be able to set a minimum threshold amount that someone can send me unsolicited, and a separate threshold for them being able to include a message.
If the ads sender pay for it (or should I say reward the views), it’s better than spam because they actually consider your time to be worth paying for it. Slice does web browsing rewards already.
Inb4. I really love how exodus intergrates your wallet into theirs and "tie" it to the private key / bitcoin address. Probably you could add a non-custodial bitcoin & l-btc wallet using mnemonic phrase and tie it your custodian lightning wallet in the same manner as well.
ads yeah if i can set a minimum ad fee 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Is that why I’ve been getting free sats. 5 times now x by 1 sat. Keep them coming lol
Paywall to sort out bots. Potential single use invoice is a way around to mitigate, But paywall services also guarantee income for Wallet of Satoshi. At the same time it is pretty shitcoiny to let bots pay wallet of satoshi for advertising. That’s why I am here, To not have my data tracked and things advertised to me, But Shitcoiners eek their way in any possible way. Also scam bots creeping on new coiners. Scraping for bot scams sees like a pretty Russian scam hacker thing to do.
sent a minimum sats requirement
yes, "ignore the message unless it's above a threshold" is the solution
Send me the SATs…I’ll happily ignore the ads for SATs
Or read it for sats
Naa, I try to never read ads as a matter of principle. I hate being shoved things in my face that I didn’t ask for 😂
Hmm, maybe you could let users set a limit for the minimum amount of sats they want to receive at a time. Then merge all incoming zaps (below dust limit) into one zap until you reach the sats minimum. Then send the zap with "merged zap" as text message.
ALL COOL
I don’t see a problem. Value for value- at least I get something out of it.
Allow the user to set a minimum payout. Second create a system that scrapes these advertisers. You know who they are sending the 1 sat payments & spamming advertisements on a massive scale inevitably. Create a fee for advertisers that goes directly to the sender in addition to their 1sat. I was wondering why I kept seeing more news & ads on here. Even if you block them they have multiple bots generating new keys spamming up relays & other places. You can't stop them unless you pose a high fee for advertising. I understand it's a business & this may be an incentive for WoS to do nothing because they collect on all the fees. But don't we want to get away from advertisers & it's spam of centralized news it just seems to be another method to centralize the decentralized? At least create us the opportunity to not be taken advantage of so individuals will feel a mutual benefit. A high fee for advertisers of course are gonna boo me for saying this & say nay for this but understand why. 1 This will make the advertisers fluctuate not to bombard crap everywhere draining the poor batteries of all the mobile users of nostr so more selective pickings of ads. 2 Since it's easier to figure out who the advertisers are rather then block them out this will balance out the mutual benefit of both parties; the advertisers still get to spam but the payouts they make will be bigger to the viewers. As of current this is cheaper then centralized advertising on facebook or any other site where you can pay to advertise. As #nostr is growing I imagine every advertising fanatic, company, & ad bot makers are drooling looking at nostr because of how dirt cheap it is to pay to advertise & the mass they can reach out to for almost nothing. This is like the historical great gold rush for advertisers because not only do they have a bigger outreach but now they can raise their prices more because they know they can reach more people here then anywhere else. I & many others use adblocks to avoid all of this but on nostr we must make effort because these are not built in ads. It's up to Wallet of Satoshi to help in the balance in order to make everyone happy. It's important to always remember bitcoins etherium all these cryptocurrencies are to get away from centralization & online advertising is just that. If i'm gonna be bombarded with ads from thousands of generated npubs & can't stop it at least let me get more then 1sat every 14 hours per 5k ads.
Survey with free bitcoin is welcomed. Phishing scams are not
Being paid for your attention is likely a better experience than simply interrupting a service to highjack your attention.
We shouldn't stand in the way of commercial applications; particularly if it is optional to see the advert. "Receive 100 sats to see this ad" is an ok message I think particularly if you have time to kill, you ought to get paid for your time.
Under a threshold the user can set, hide the message and don't give it a notification. Set a sane value by default and offer the option of revealing the message by tapping on it in transactions list. Plus/or a Nostr integration where you can allow displaying messages for low sats values only for npubs the user follows. Rejecting low number sats sounds regarded imo, if implemented should be opt in, not opt out.
Alby doesn’t notify you under a certain amount. You can and should be able to set a threshold.
