Your NostrSync backup file contains public keys of everyone you follow, you can copy it from your backup files and broadcast it using the Nostr profile manager.
However, expecting daily users to go through this process to maintain their following list is not practical.
Instead, clients can keep a small weekly backup of your following and relay lists, which can be easily broadcast when needed.
NostrSync serves a larger, but distinct purpose, such as migrating data, including notes, between Relays and making it available on every relay for everyone.
Your NostrSync backup file includes the public keys of everyone you follow, which you can obtain and rebroadcast as the latest event with the client.
Nevertheless, it's simpler for clients to keep those weekly backups, especially for following & relay list, you can also broadcast them as Latest in one click because you're already logged in.

Any plans of incorporating some type of auto backup for users so its easier on a user who faces this issue of follower lists being nuked.

Plans? Sure. There is an item in my to-do list for this. But it has been there since January. :(.
Good to hear its on the list and on the radar. Feel like it would be a great feature as I have encountered many users who have had their lists nuked before.
I was hoping that an Account-managing client would resolve this better than Amethyst, but maybe we will have to offer something as well.
