 @43d7c4ea It’s an exercise in moralistically “othering” everyone not in the “in-group”, to the extent that it allows you to remove and act contrary to all normal social obligations to those individuals.

We not only allow “them” to suffer and die in a way we would never countenance for the in-group; they *must* suffer and die as a moral lesson to the others.

Ultimately it all comes down to greed. It is all propaganda to allow the in-group to hoard their unearned wealth and power.

I agree. My experience is there's a culture of wealth and many rich people just see the rest of society as objects to be used. Just look at Tim Gurner and his talk about increasing unemployment. 

But this is translated into actual policy by institutions often with the tactic approval of even quite liberal press and politicians. The liberals might whine about the impact but they accept the basic premise.
