Capitalism or a free market economy is the natural state of things. It is the default, not an upheaval of a different order. It is every other system, Communism, Socialism, Corporatism, etc which are forced modifications to the natural order.

I'd like to think that's true but beyond what's possible for small communities, it seems the first agricultural societies were likely under the authoritarian rule of a clique that had control over water/irrigation access and defended against invasions.
