The community points that Reddit had rolled out and with which many users were earning money as well as investing money into was abruptly cancelled. A huge sell off resulted and someone posted nostr as a possible alternative to those people affected. Interesting concept - thanks user rayfin on Reddit for introducing it to me

Lots of rabbit hole leads to follow but really, setup a profile, add a ln address, and just start following and interacting. My only other advice would be to setup a new account to "test" with. One to maybe make mistakes with where the future impact can be less. Nostr identities don't have to map to any other identity., digital or IRL.

Welcome. I used to participate on Reddit a long time ago. What I didn't like was the downvote function that got increasingly abused by political activists. I got kicked out from a subreddit I had been on for years for simply replying on a controversial thread and arguing for decentralization as a path forward. At that point, there was just so many political activists that had overrun the place that it didn't seem a meaningful use of my time. Here on Nostr we don't have downvotes and nobody can cancel you. People can mute you (block) although this doesn't prevent you from participating, you are just not visible to them. (Unless they click 'show message' on your note) We are a happy bunch of liberty-addicts.
