It's unbelievable people still think the pizza thing was a massive mistake. The only mistake is not understanding that everything you spend any money on is actually opportunity cost of Bitcoin

We almost all bought a pizza the same year the bitcoin pizza guy did. Everyone of us had the same opportunity cost as the bitcoin pizza guy for it whether we used Fiat or not

bitcoinorshit.com is still such a great website

When you realize that bitcoin is the money and the measuring stick and NOT just some beanie baby property...that's when you realize you've been exposed to the opportunity cost of not being all in since day one
The whole notion of it being a mistake is selfishly short sighted. There must always be a "first" purchase. Whether a pizza or a taco. Whether it was in 2010 or 2024. There must always be a first.

You can only proceed with the information available at hand at the time of the decision. How could he have predicted the 2024 price? Should he have made his purchase based on his estimated 2024 price? What about 2124? It's just such a flawed notion.

In any case, looking back (hindsight 20/20) yes in today's terms he paid a lot. But without it and assuming no one else did similar the next day or the next or the next or the next.. bitcoin would have never been used for payments. Arguably lightning wouldn't have happened. And in all likelihood, bitcoin would remain without a use case, gotten no press, and have dwindled to nothing.

Have you bought anything with bitcoin today? Wow what a mistake. 14 years from now that's probably worth a fortune. So shld we all just hodl forever and do absolutely nothing with it? Lets give it no use case and while we're at it, lets freeze all development and maintenence of the code. Bet that'll make the value skyrocket 🙄

Was buying pizza with bitcoin a mistake? A short term sacrifice for long term gain maybe, but a mistake? Far from it.
