So much content is locked behind language
Imagine, for example, you're new and join Nostr to see if there are others that are interested in Psychology or Philosophy or whatever topic, but you only speak Spanish
There may be a ton of English content, but you don't speak English
To the scope of this user, it may feel like there's no content because the filter of language has dwindled it down to only a few posts every day
AI is a huge unlock for this, but it's not sufficient to only have text translation; image and video are needed to as they are large part of the social experience
This could literally 10x the content quantity and quality a given user sees without any new posts or users being added to the network, which only further compounds as more users join

How far away are we from image and video translation @tyiu
That's awesome if people are working on this problem!
I'm working on it myself and hope to publish an API and demo soon that does text, image and video. I'm getting closer, but I am constantly finding more to build. If you're interested I can DM you a link to try. Then you can send me any feedback you have.
The more the merrier!
Language isn’t just a set of words and grammar. It’s also very tied to culture. I think we need to make it much easier to find content by language than just make it easy to translate everything.
I agree!
I think there are many ways to approach discovery of content: DVMs, algo relays, APIs for builders, bots, etc.
There may be human rights activists that want their message to be shared globally, but only speak their native tongue
There may be content creators and memers who want their audience to be as large as possible, regardless of language barriers or time zones
I think the more we understand each other globally the less inclined we are to fight each other
I guess my position is simply this:

Amethyst with built in translations is eye opening 💯
