I think it’s just a really small user base Kris.. getting to know people etc just takes time too, and there are many IRL connections on here that maybe changes the comms between people. anyone is free to build community tho
That's a vlaid point AK. It is a small user base currently. I can also appreciate real like connections. I'm fairly new to many of the topics that are relevant in the current active community. I ceratialy recognize that community building is a open opportunity to all. And in do try to foster community here when I can from my seat.

Yeah, there is not enough of a user base to get a reasonable network of people with interests other than nostr and Bitcoin.
It feels that way to some extent. I’m encouraged by some of the content in a technology sense. And I strongly believe in the privacy and fundamentals of the design constructs. I do hope the space succeeds in adoption at scale.
I don't know why communities didn't work out. A Reddit style nostr client would be great for discovery and plugging into like minded people. The UX is a bit glitchy on Amethyst for communities.
That does sound appealing. I’ve struggled to keep up with the active development of implementations (clients and other) at times here. I just have limited time. I’m trying to move more into active use of Amethyst. It’s feature rich. Damus has been my daily driver. I need to explore more and expose myself to other opportunities to engage with others.
I'm content with my circle of friends. Don't care about everyone else.
I think nostr should find a way to attract more crypto oriented individuals! Like make it a home for them.

I meet new people on nostr all the time. Some are new users. Not all of them. Not sure the new users leave because they don’t like bitcoin. Seems to me like a lot of newcomers leave because they don’t engage much, just gm and gn. I see some get frustrated because they dont get much responses to their gms. I’m not sure that’s the way to go about it 🤷🏾♂️

Seems to me like the gms and gns are a double edged sword. What the newcomer sees: -A stream of GMs + a flow of sats What they don’t see: -Consistent interactions between npubs for weeks (months) … (+ the GMs) It seems that some make the mistake of thinking that GMs = sats and interactions. When the interactions actually need to come first. Creates a lot of frustration for some newcomers
I think what you're referring to is just the general disdain for influencer culture. Nostr has been a refreshing break from the constant flow of that, but inevitably it will become more predominant at some point. Almost everyone tries to make regular new users feel welcome, but they have to take the wheel in order to achieve the experience they want to have.
Not too sure. I think if we move to a perspective of relay-as-community where both users and relay owners can communicate content that they want more or less of, there might not be such a need for influencers

More seriously though, I do think community oriented social will be a huge draw once some solid examples get rolling.
Completely untapped there right now, trying to maintain a town square - but town squares don't have 1000s of participants with nothing in common. Now, if we have hundreds relays, some more popular than others, some centered around a theme or location. Users have personal curation feeds for "i dont care for their notes at this frequency, but they're welcome to say what they want" to "i don't want you swimming in my pond" and sending a report to the relay operators (WOT for example) Relay operators should be able to get reports and other info from their users in whatever resolution is useful on who are good faith players on their relay. Having those tunable knobs is how we solve the spam and toxicity issue.

Trying to attract and hook users as fast as possible is venture capital exit strategy thinking. We are bringing back the open web, outside of the big tech silos. It entails creating compelling software of every type, not just twitter clones, over nostr, and people will organically find the value and that's how it grows.
Me: use Nostr, you can't be banned or censored Twitter user: Nostr sounds interesting but there are all sorts of legal issues if people send kiddy porn over your relay and the feds raid you so legally it's your kiddy porn. Me: you don't have to run your own relay if you're worried about that Twitter user: erm Me: also Nostr only sends around text and URLs, any images or video are stored on other servers just like with the rest of the Web Twitter user: sounds risky though. I think I'd better stay with the censorship

Sometimes I detect deliberate self sabotage on nostr, feels like it's not done maliciously but there seems to be a worry that nostr might grow out of being 'this could've been a bitcoin telegram group. And to remedy that it regurgitates bitcointwitter to ward off the unfamiliar. Total tinfoil hat theory tho;) (Just an imo)
